The Blowout is happening!
Apologies for no post last week. I was heads down working on a new short story and making headway on the first issue of The Blowout with Tammy Su.
I am beyond excited to roll this first issue!
Here is a sneak peak of our contributions:
2 short story writers
3 poets
6 visual artists
A photographer
An essayist
A deep conversation with Taru Marcellus on his poetry and recently published book of poetry
I am so thrilled and excited to share what we have in store for you all!
We’ve also received a lot of interest for contributions to a future second issue too, which means we’ll need to up the ante after we get this edition into your hands.

Over the past few weeks, my wife and I have been going out to more literary social events. I’d forgotten what it was like to want to talk to strangers encircled in a conversation they themselves don’t know whether to remain in, while I would stood awkwardly studying the torn label of a beer bottle. Despite this, I’d had some pretty wonderful times. Can always practice your networking muscles.
We went to a speculative fiction reading at The Gallery in Brooklyn and ran into old friends. I’ve been mulling about Brooklyn just to meet writers as this year is about connecting with more writers. We attended the launch party of my workshop teacher, which had an amazing set of writers/readers and reminded me of the supreme power of holding physical objects in your hand. We got two copies of A Common Well Journal and I still can’t wait to finish reading it.
I’m inspired to make this apartment party idea a reality for The Blowout. The physical space, physical event, physical object of a magazine seems to not only be the kernel of the idea, but also the true critical facet that keeps people off their phones and their eyes on the page. I want us TOGETHER. It makes a difference.
Tammy Su and I will start publicizing on our instagrams and Substack Notes, but you can also follow The Blowout’s official instagram: @blowoutmag
More specific details to come, but you’ll get the magazine issue in very early June!

Does this mean that there will be a physical version of the blowout?? can I order one if I can't attend in person?
